Jeff Beck dies, The cause was bacterial meningitis, Melissa Dragich, his publicist, said.
According to Rolling Stone Jeff’s family confirmed his death on Wednesday, January 11.
They released a statement saying that Jeff Beck’s family was deeply saddened by the news. He peacefully died yesterday after suddenly developing bacterial meningitis. While they grieve, his family requests privacy.
Jeff Beck’s Band
As a member or leader of his own bands and the Yardbirds, Beck brought an adventurous spirit to his playing during the 1960s and 1970s that made the recordings of those groups renowned.
When he joined Yardbirds in 1965 to replace Eric Clapton as guitarist, the band was already a major force in Britain’s expanding electric blues movement. His soaring licks and darting lead vocals on songs such as “Shapes Of Things” and “Over Under Sideways Down”, added an expansive dimension to the music, which helped to signal the emergence of psychedelic rock.
Three years later, Mr. Beck started his own band, the Jeff Beck Group. Along with Rod Stewart (a lesser-known singer at that time) and Ron Wood on bass, the music was a strong foundation for heavy metal. Particularly, the 1968 debut of the band, “Truth,” was a template that Jimmy Page, another guitarist from the Yardbirds used to create Led Zeppelin a few months later.

He still managed to earn eight gold albums in more than six decades. He won seven Grammys, including six for best rock instrumental performance and one each for best pop collaboration with singers. He was inducted twice into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame, once as a member of the Yardbirds in 1992, and again as a solo artist in 2009.

Jeff Beck’s One Band, Then Another
After Mr. Beck suffered a skull fracture in a car accident, he tried to rally his band by forming a new group with Mr. Bogert, Mr. Appice and Mr. Appice. The blues-rock band Cactus was formed by the two musicians.
After a long recuperation, the Jeff Beck Group was reformed in 1971 with Bobby Tench, Cozy Powell, and Max Middleton as the keyboardists. This encouraged Beck to try jazz.
Their October debut, “Rough and Ready”, featured more original compositions by Mr. Beck than usual but only made it to the Billboard Top 50. Its chaser, the Jeff Beck Group, which leans more towards the soulful side, did better and broke Billboard’s Top 20. They also went gold.
